There is no better natural laboratory than the Gal谩pagos Islands to study the diversity of life, its origin, and functions. On this study abroad program, you will get a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and visit sites that helped inspire his Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.

Program Highlights

After a day in Quito, we will leave mainland Ecuador and spend our time on three different islands (San Cristobal Island, Santa Cruz, and Isabela) which are strategically chosen to expose you to the maximum amount of diversity in the Gal谩pagos ecosystem.

  • Gain first-hand experience of the methods used to study flora and fauna of various islands through a series of guided tours, practical sessions, on-site classes by faculty from Kent State University and staff from Gal谩pagos national parks and other organizations in the Gal谩pagos.

  • Conduct your own individual research projects in ecology, conservation, animal behavior, evolution, urbanization, or tourism.

鈥淚 went into the trip kind of wanting to see if field research, traveling abroad, going into national parks or into nature and seeing animals in their natural habitat would be the right path for me. This trip cemented that yes, this is what I want to do; I want to work with animals in the wild.鈥
