Mentor Teacher

What Is the Role of a Mentor Teacher?

Mentor Teachers play a vital and multifaceted role in shaping the future of education. At Kent State University, we recognize the importance of their contribution in guiding student teachers through one of the most critical phases of their preparation.

Serving as both mentor and evaluator, the Mentor Teacher helps student teachers grow professionally by:

  • Providing ongoing feedback on instructional practices and classroom management

  • Modeling effective teaching strategies and professional behavior

  • Evaluating teaching performance and professional dispositions

  • Supporting the integration of student teachers into the school community

  • Encouraging creativity and innovation while sharing the wisdom of experience

Mentor Teachers are instrumental in helping student teachers build confidence, competence, and a strong foundation for success in the classroom.

Kent State University is deeply grateful to the dedicated educators who serve in this role and help implement the final, transformative step of our teacher preparation program.
